Introduction to Year:

Welcome to Year 3! Our teacher is Miss Smith.

Year 3, the children's first experience of Key Stage 2, sees lots of changes for our pupils. This year we will focus on becoming independent thinkers whilst facing lots of new challenges. This is something which is especially important as the children take their first steps into the juniors. It is wonderful to see them develop and mature.

Our classroom is a happy, busy, friendly space where everyone contributes and everyone has something special to offer.

In Maths we follow the White Rose Maths Curriculum where children are able to learn through a variety of concrete, abstract and pictorial resources. In English, we become confident writers- exploring a variety of styles and taking inspiration from our favourite high quality texts.

We love to learn about the past. Our particular favourites are the Stone Age to the Iron Age and the Romans. Children go home full of knowledge and can’t wait to find out more. We become Scientists studying a variety of topics such as Forces and Magnets, Plants and Rocks.

We are also very lucky to have so much outdoor space within our school which we try to make use of as much as possible, right across the curriculum, from History to Science, Art to English. We aim to make learning inspiring, motivating, interactive and fun!

This year, every child will be encouraged to take risks, be creative and aim high in order to reach their full potential.

Learning at Home:

The children will always have a school reading book to read at home and a reading record to keep a note of what they have read. They are able to change their books once a week via the class reading basket.

All children have access to Times Tables Rockstars and are encouraged to use this as much as possible. Sometimes, other classes will challenge us to a week long battle!

A Maths and a SPAG piece of homework is posted on TEAMS each Friday for children to complete.

Spellings are sent home on a Monday each week and relate to what the children have been learning in their Spelling or Phonics lessons. Our focus is on using the words in sentences rather than just spelling the words on their own. The children also have the opportunity to practise their words during our handwriting sessions.
