Special Student Shout Out

4 May 2022 (by admin)

4th May 2022

Every once in a while, you witness something truly brave and inspiring – and that is what the senior students experienced this morning in assembly. Alex Blake, in year eleven, is celebrating 10 years cancer-free after having had a brain tumour at the age of five. How do you celebrate such a thing? Alex decided to raise much-needed funds for other families having to go through the intensive cancer treatment by shaving his hair – and she did it in front of his peers and family, who also attended this morning. I am in awe of Alex! Alex’s mum, Lisa Blake, is a teaching assistant at the school, and she gave the students an overview of Alex’s journey and why providing funds for families is so important. Alex then took the stage with Miss Shuttleworth, who carried out the unusual hair appointment. Once the deed was done, the student body rose to give Alex a standing ovation, and I can report a few tears were shed. I think you will agree that this all took guts, and it goes without saying we are all deeply proud of Alex. So far, around £700 has been raised through a Go-Fund-Me page, but we would love to reach a £1000 by the end of the week – come on, Chetwynde; let’s make that happen!
