Chetwynde School

Respect, Responsibility, Resilience

Key Stage 3

At Chetwynde the tutor team works hard to ensure that your son or daughter settles happily into life at school. We recognise that this can be a stressful time for students as they make the transition from Primary to Secondary school, and we do all that we can to support every child through this process. To assist with the changeover, we partake in a residential in the Lake District for all of the whole year group, which has seen multiple benefits over previous years.

Chetwynde offers a wealth of academic and extra-curricular activities to all students. We encourage each and every child to take a full part in the life of the school. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress or how they are settling into life at Chetwynde do not hesitate to contact either of us, alternatively you could contact their Form Tutor.

In Year 8 students are encouraged to build upon the flying start that they made having settled into Chetwynde. We expect all our students to be participating fully in the academic and extra-curricular life of the school, as well as assisting the Year 7 students to settle in. There is no time to ease up at Chetwynde. The tutor team will be continually encouraging your son or daughter to push themselves as hard as they can in their studies. Inter-house credit competition motivates students to contribute towards a collective goal (prizes are awarded to the winning House) through both academic and extra-curricular endeavour and achievement.

Away from their work, the school continues to offer a plethora of activities to suit all students. Sporting, musical, dramatic, academic and environmental (to name but a few) interests are all catered for. We encourage all our students to be as fully involved as possible, and to grow into well-rounded citizens through a ‘truly all-round education’.

Year 9 is a particularly important as well as an exciting time. All the students entering Year 9 enter a new stage of their school career; this is a very demanding year and students will be expected to achieve high standards in and outside the classroom. Students will be responsible learners, be organised for all their lessons and learn to take full responsibility for their own actions. In addition to this, students are also increasingly aware of their role as ambassadors for the school, as well as our own collective as a year group and all who support them, at home and at school.

By reaching and maintaining high standards, the students will have ample opportunity for success at Chetwynde. Whether it be improving self confidence, taking part in school shows, scoring tries, to learning a musical instrument, Year 9 is a time of rich development that starts to lay the firm foundations needed for successful progress.
