Chetwynde School

Respect, Responsibility, Resilience

Secondary

Whether children are moving from our own Primary School or from other schools, Chetwynde’s Senior School represents an exciting new beginning. With our welcoming and supportive atmosphere, children soon forget their natural fears about this change in their lives. The school is big enough to allow independence and new challenges but small enough to ensure that every child is known by name. This individual attention is the hallmark of the school and is a key factor in its success and in the well-being of our students.

As a non-selective school, our academic record is, quite simply, outstanding. We welcome students of all abilities at Chetwynde and seek to give them an education which reflects their particular talents. We strive to nurture each individual and to help them to appreciate the intrinsic value of learning.

A traditional approach to teaching is complemented by our determination to provide all of our students with the widest possible range of opportunities, whatever their abilities.

Our GCSE results place us consistently among the highest-achieving schools in Cumbria each year. With a predominantly academic curriculum, our students are taught a wide and diverse range of subjects, including English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French,  History, Geography, Religious Studies, Design and Technology, PE, Art, Drama and ICT.  Most students will study ten subjects to GCSE.

In the Senior School, our students are able to broaden their horizons through extra-curricular activities such as clubs, trips at home and abroad, and through participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Our Senior students are encouraged to explore new avenues, to embrace new experiences, to achieve their potential and to mature into the people they want to become.
