Extracurricular
We offer a range of extracurricular opportunities for students to enrich their knowledge and further their enjoyment of mathematics.
National competitions
Students at Chetwynde continue to excel at the UK Mathematics Trust Competitions. Year on year we are winning more certificates. Last year 5 of our students were awarded "Grey Kangaroos" by the UKMT.
Key Stage 3 students also have the opportunity to enter Liverpool University's MEM challenge over half term.
Royal Institution Masterclasses
Every year, two Year 11 students attend masterclass courses run by the Royal Institution at Lancaster University. Not only do students get to study wondrous topics such as topology, encryption, and group theory, but they get to do so at one of the top ten universities in the UK.
Oxford University Online Masterclasses
We offer students the opportunity to watch live lectures and talks, livestreamed directly from Oxford University. We also offer students to chance to take part in Oxford University Maths Department's Virtual Open Day.
The Maths Masterclass Tutorials with Simon Singh
The educational charity TalentED, in collaboration with Simon Singh, is offering the nation's top mathematicians the opportunity to study advanced problem solving and mathematics with qualified tutors in small online tutorials. These are offered completely for free for eligible students. We are waiting to see who has successfully enrolled out of our eligible Year 8 and Year 11 students.
Dr Frost Maths Competitions
We regularly run competitions in school on our Dr Frost Maths platform. Dr Frost has been very supportive, creating announcement videos for our competitions and featuring the school on his website.
