Vision & Values:

Humanities is at the forefront of an ever-changing world and has a huge responsibility in preparing young people for life after school. Analysis, understanding and tolerance are at the heart of our curriculum.

We value providing our students with the skills to become independent, self-motivated and passionate lifelong learners.

The subject areas of Geography, History and Belief, Philosophy and Ethics (BPE) work together to develop students’ understanding of the world around them – it's past, its present, its people and the links between the different subject areas.  We value inspiring students to learn about – and to question – what they see around them, broadening their horizons and expectations.  We also value the development of students’ ability to form opinions based on reasoning and understanding, as well as encouraging respect and tolerance of others.

Our vision is a commitment to becoming – and sustaining – an outstanding faculty by living our values each and every day:

Supporting British Values:

The Humanities Faculty also actively promotes essential British values, and the universal values of good global citizenship:  we analyse situations in the UK and the wider world where these values have been tested and explore the development of democracy, the importance of individual liberty and tolerance of other faiths, cultures and belief systems.

Curriculum:

At KS3 (Years 7-9) students are taught in mixed ability groups.

Students follow a skills-based course using National Curriculum guidelines for the basis of the Schemes of Work. 

At KS4 (Years 10-11) Geography and History are popular options subjects with the AQA Exam Board.

BPE is taught to all pupils throughout KS4 with students also having the option to choose to take AQA Religious Studies Short Course in addition to their other GCSEs.
