Welcome to Year 4

Class Teacher
: Mrs Tranter and Mrs Dow

We are a friendly, helpful and hard-working class who enjoy being in school and always push ourselves to reach our full potential.

Reading

As mentioned in the newsletter, it is important that your child is reading regularly at home. Ideally, we would like children in Year 4 to read at least 5 times a week for 10 minutes each time.

Please use this time to discuss the book and ask appropriate questions to further develop comprehension skills. Reading can be done independently, although it is still important that your child reads aloud regularly too.

Reading records should be in school each day as they are checked on a regular basis.

Curriculum and Overviews

By being immersed into a rich and creative curriculum, this allows children to broaden their knowledge and make relevant links throughout their learning.

In English, we study a variety of texts, covering writing composition, reading comprehension, spoken language, spelling, punctuation and grammar whilst also linking to other areas of the curriculum too.

As Mathematicians, we follow White Rose Maths Scheme for our daily lessons. The scheme provides opportunities for children to use concrete and pictorial resources as they continue to build their understanding of number.

On our journey back in time, we learn all about life in Ancient Egypt plus The Anglo-Saxon and The Viking Age.
