Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Year 1 is a very important year for our children as it is their transition from foundation stage to key stage 1. We aim to make this as enjoyable and easy as possible for all, through a broad and stimulating curriculum with the aim that the children  are happy, independent learners who are kind, respectful and considerate of their peers.

During the year we look at a range of fascinating texts in English including the fantasy  stories: Where the wild Things Are, The Robot and The Bluebird and Beegu. We follow the White Rose scheme of work in Maths,

We will travel back in time to explore the amazing lives of the famous fossil hunter, Mary Anning, and that of past and present day naturalist, David Attenborough.

Our science topics during the year will interlink with other curriculum areas such as Geography, Art and English and will see the children exploring and investigating the world of  Animals (including humans) Plants and Materials .

To enhance the children’s learning experiences we make use of our wonderful school grounds and also make several educational visits throughout the year.
